One of my Poli Sci professors in college, whenever he was about to go off on a tangent or express his opinion, would interrupt himself by saying "Stepping from behind the podium for a moment..." and then physically do so. So in honor of Dr. Gerard Rutan, I bring you "The Podium," a place where I can vent, rant, spew, pontificate, and just generally express myself on whatever issue is bugging me.

Up until I was about 10 years old, I would have thought (if I'd been introspective at that age) that I would be some kind of "draw-er" when I grew up: A cartoonist, poster-maker, or maybe a draftsman or an architect (I was also really into "engineering" with Lincoln Logs, Legos, etc.). Then I started the fifth grade, where my teacher started us on a heavy course of reading and creative writing. Before long, the drawing had fallen by the way and my primary creative hobby was writing fiction.
I've always only written for my own amusement but, as I get older and my time becomes more precious, I've decided it's probably time to start submitting pieces for publication. For now, though, I'll be posting short items here.

A short story I wrote in 1999 (and before the movie of the same name). In fact, it's the first complete short story I've written as an adult. Usually, my ideas are either too short even for a short story (more on the order of scenes or vignettes) or too long. This time, however, pretty much the whole thing just popped into my head. |
I've been racing sports cars at the regional club level since 2003. Partly because it's not something many people do, and partly to chivvy myself into writing—much of the point of this site in the first place—I've been documenting my experiences ever since. Between photos, videos, and a LOT of words, there's a substantial body of work to view.

Since 1992 or so, I've made extra money by occasionally freelancing as a technical writer. From January 1996 until April 2002, I was also a fulltime tech writer for Microsoft.
| Microsoft Project Version 2003 Inside Out | An update to the original work to reflect the latest version of Microsoft Project. Available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. | |
| Microsoft Project Version 2002 Inside Out | I was a contributing author for this during the first half of 2002. I wrote the chapters on macros and Visual Basic for Applications, as well as the outline for Part 10 as a whole. Buy it at your favorite faceless online retailer, such as Amazon or Barnes & Noble. |

| File Express Companion | In 1991, I wrote and self-published this small "tips & tricks" book about the database program I was supporting at a company called Expressware. Although I'm sure you can't buy it anywhere anymore, it is listed in the Library of Congress, which I suppose is kinda cool for something of its ilk.
